The method of diagnosing leakage in a high-pressure injection system of an IC engine having a number of cylinders (3) and a number of injectors (5) involves generating an operating signal (Sp: delta-Q) related to a physical quantity of the injection system. The operating signal is compared with a reference operating value )Po: delta-Qth1). A fuel leakage condition is determined in the event of a predetermined operating relationship between the operating signal and the reference operating value. The operating signal is a pressure signal related to a pressure of the fuel in the injection system and the reference operating value is a reference pressure value (Po).
