Abstract
Metal reinforcing members for articles of vulcanised elastomer material, in particular in the form of wires, comprising a core of steel coated with a layer of metal alloy designed to provide adhesion between the steel and the elastomer matrix, in which the said metal alloy is an antimony/zinc alloy having a zinc content between 3% and 25%, preferably between 5% and 15%. These wires are suggested for use as individual members or as cords in the production of articles of steel-reinforced elastomer material, in particular radial tyres. The invention also comprises a method for the production of the said coated metal members comprising the successive electrodeposition of antimony and zinc on the steel core, followed by formation of the Sb/Zn alloy by thermal diffusion.
