Abstract

The platform 11 is attached directly or indirectly to the motorised trolley 4-5 that runs on the guide rail 3 along the longitudinal axis of the carriage, with interposed means for guidance, raising and lowering 12-13-14-15. The platform carries laterally, on the side facing the railway carriage, an enclosure 16 of suitable dimensions, with which the said platform performs, in the raised position, the operation of approaching towards and moving away from the carriage, so as not to interfere with parts of the said carriage. When the platform and enclosure have been positioned in the desired area of the carriage, they are lowered until the enclosure reaches a short distance from the roof and covers the working area in order to ensure maximum safety for the operator who, only when the apparatus has been lowered, after the operation of a sensor 17 connected underneath the safety enclosure, is able to open the side gate 19 of the platform and climb onto the roof of the carriage. The apparatus is preferably provided with a small crane 22-27-25 for loading and unloading materials required for the maintenance of the carriage. <IMAGE>
