Abstract

The invention relates to a compass arm or an insert for compass arms provided with a support for the lead or point, which is also called a needle. Known lead and needle supports require arrangements which reduce stability, such as the application of slots, and this makes it impossible to use plastics material for the production of compass arms or inserts unless special processing is used. The invention is designed to provide a locking system for compasses which ensures a secure support for the lead or the needle at all times even if plastics materials are used, without it being necessary to apply special processing to the compass arms for that reason. This object is achieved through the fact that at least the part of the compass arm or insert which contains the seat for the lead or for the needle is made of plastics, that a threaded leg is produced in a single piece with that plastics zone, that at least one inlet opening close to the threaded leg is provided for the seat, so that a locking member secured by the tightening nut and pressing against the lead or needle is inserted into that inlet opening. <IMAGE>
