Abstract
Process for the preparation of carboxylic naphthalene derivatives having the general formula I in which: - R is H, a C1-C40 alkyl, an aryl, a CH2 OR' or COOH group - R' is H, a C1-C20 alkyl, an aryl, - R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, which may be the same or different, are H, a C1-C40 alkyl, an aryl, OR, NO2, COOH, (CH2)nOR' groups where n = 4-6, SO3H, comprising subjecting compounds of general formula II to oxidative decarboxylation in alcoholic solution in a basic environment in an atmosphere of O2 and/or air at temperatures between -20 and 80 degrees Celsius with a stoichiometric base/substrate ratio of between 15:1 and 1:1.
