Abstract
Pharmaceutical formulation for topical use characterised in that the active ingredient, 9-(2-hydroxyethoxymethyl) guanine (aciclovir) or a salt or derivative thereof included within it, is distributed between two phases, an aqueous phase and a lipid phase. The aciclovir is completely dissolved in the aqueous phase, while it is homogeneously dispersed in the lipid phase. Special surfactants (polysorbate 80, triethanolamine stearate), a buffer (piperazine tartrate) and a humectant (sorbitol) in high concentration are used in order to obtain a therapeutically effective concentration of dissolved aciclovir in the aqueous phase.
