Abstract

System for encoding of voice signals for digital transmission at low bit rate and a system for decoding the received digital signal, comprising at the encoding side a voice signal source coupled to a sampler, followed by an analogue/digital converter, a circuit arrangement for data compression in the time domain based on harmonic scaling in the time domain, associated with a circuit arrangement for compression in the spectral domain (Sub Band Coding), said first and second arrangement being provided to load a transmission register designed to put out a sequence of elements suitable for transmission in a communication channel of digital type; and comprising at the decoding side a reception register intended to collect said sequences of elements, said reception register being connected to a circuit arrangement for expansion in the spectral domain (the inverse of the Sub Band Coding), connected in turn to an arrangement for expansion in the time domain (the inverse of the time domain harmonic scaling), followed by a low-pass filter and then a unit restoring the voice signal.
