Abstract
(1,2 di-0-acetyl-glycero-3-phosphoryl)choline in optically active or racemic mixture form by treatment with water absorbs a molecule of water and is easily crystallized by medium-polarity organic solvents. The hydrated form of the aforesaid compounds is in the form of a white, crystalline, non-hygroscopic powder with a well-defined melting point, which is odourless, of a high degree of purity, and soluble in water. With products of this type it is possible to prepare better controllable and more stable pharmaceutical formulations, which are used for the treatment of senile brain involution syndromes and for the treatment of dyslipidaemia and hyperlipoproteinaemia.
