Abstract

Instrument for nucleotomy suitable, for example, for the removal of nuclear material from an intervertebral disc. Normally a "rongeur" is used to remove an entire disc, but more often it is necessary to use a rongeur repeatedly to eliminate a few fragments at a time, with the frequent removal of the rongeur from the nuclear site in order to empty its cup jaws. This results in a loss of time, with the further disadvantage that the rongeur is repeatedly moved in a sensitive area in which there are nerves and nerve endings. The object of the invention is to provide an instrument which avoids these disadvantages, comprising a tube with an open distal end, a means in the distal end of the tube for grasping the nuclear material and depositing it into the tube, and a means for retracting the nuclear material deposited therein along the tube. <IMAGE>
