Abstract
Biodegradable functional polyesters from the polymerization of glycide ethers of protected alditols, N- glycidyl pyrrolidone and their mixtures with alkylenic oxides with cyclic anhydrides in the presence of various catalysts. These polyesters, which comprise monomer residues containing one or more isopropylidene groups in the side chain can be converted through the total or partial removal of the isopropylidene groups into corresponding polyesters bearing 2 or more hydroxy groups per structural unit deriving from the glycide ether of alditols. Through their properties the optimally hydroxylated polyesters are suitable for the production of thermoplastic and thermohardening plastics and useful pharmaceutical and biodegradable agricultural-feedstuff formulations.
