Abstract

The method involves carrying out the reaction in a single reactor by sending the reagent through tubes containing the catalyst and supplying the necessary heat for the reaction to the said catalytic tubes largely by radiation and in a controlled manner in order to carry out the reaction selectively in isothermal conditions or on an optimal temperature gradient. The apparatus comprises one or more reactors in parallel consisting of a radiant chamber containing the catalytic tubes, each of which consists of two concentric tubes, with the catalyst in the annular space, and a plurality of burners arranged in horizontal rows alongside the said catalytic tubes, means for selectively regulating the said burners as desired and producing an optimal thermal regime in the corresponding vertical zones or bands of the catalytic beds, and a system for periodically cleaning the reactors and regenerating the catalyst without interrupting the operating cycle. <IMAGE>
