Abstract

A seat (1) with a layered structure e.g. for a motor vehicle comprises a squab (2), a backrest (3), layered padding (5) and a body (4) of rigid or semi-rigid moulded plastics or metal designed to rest on the vehicle floor. These are three padding layers from the base upwards. A soft resilient layer (6) is covered with a relatively inelastic intermediate layer (7) with some degree of plastic 'memory', e.g. of polyethylene foam. This tends to retain its deformed shape following mechanical stress but returns to its original undeformed shape only after being unstressed for some time. A soft upper layer (8) completes three padding.
