Abstract

Soap is mfd. by extruding a prepd. soap mass in strip-form out of a plodder, cutting it automatically into short bars of exact wt. and carrying the bars on a conveyor to an eccentric press where they are pressed into the desired cake shape. The method comprises positioning bars of soap on conveyor with their wide faces perpendicular to the conveyor surface; dropping one insert in front of a reciprocating ram while this is in a position remote from the bar; causing each soap bar to be stopped in front of the ram; supporting the rear surface of soap bar which is remote from the ram and moving ram towards soap bar to press insert lightly to the bar surface, and mixing soap bar towards the eccentric press to form the cake while pressing insert flush into the surface of the cake; and ejecting cake onto a second conveyor to transport it to wrapping and packing machinery
