Abstract
(A) N-(Lower alkyl)-neoalkanamides in which the alkyl residue contains 1-4C atoms and the neoalkanoyl group contains 7-14C atoms are new. (B) New washing agents for hard or soft surfaces in order to render them insect repellent comprise a soap or an organic synthetic wash-active substance in an amount sufficient to exert a cleaning action and an insect-repellent amount of an N-(lower alkyl)- neoalkanamide as defined above. (C) New insect repellent solid cleansing agents in bar form contain soaps and/or surface active agents and insect repellent amounts of N-alkyl-neoalkanamides in which the alkyl group contains 18C atoms and the neoalkanoyl group contains 7-14C atoms. (D) New insect repellent compsns. contain alkyl-neoalkanamides in which the alkyl residue contains 1-18C atoms and the neoalkanoyl residue contains 7-14C atoms dispersed or dissolved in a liq. medium. (E) In a new procedure for rendering an area as goods insect repellent, N-(1-18C alkyl)-(7-14C neoalkanamides) are applied to the area or goods or their vicinity. (F) New perfumes contain one or more N-(1-4C alkyl)-(5-14C neoalkanamides) and at least one perfume component selected from essential oils, esters, ethers, aldehydes, alcohols, hydrocarbons, ketones and lactones, the N-alkyl-neoalkanamide concn. being 0.1-98wt.%.
