Abstract
A compsn. for depositing a diffusion carbide coating on iron-carbon alloy articles comprising a carbide-forming element in an amount of from 40 to 70%, a carbon-contg. compound selected from the class of hydrocarbons having a boiling or sublimitation of 180 to 750 deg.C and which is in a solid state at room temp. in an amt. of from 0.5 to 2.5%. An activator in an amount of from 0.2 to 5.0% and an inert filler in an amount of from 22.5 to 59.3% where the carbide forming element is selected from the group consisting of chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, niobium, zirconium, tantalum and silicon.
