Abstract
Hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide are removed from a hydrocarbon vapour stream by absorption into an aq. carbonate soln.. The H2S in the carbonate soln. is then catalytically oxidised, using an O2-contg. gas, to form liq. sulphur which is withdrawn. The CO2 is removed from the carbonate soln. by stripping and the soln. iis recycled as the absorption liq.. When the recycled soln. contains by-product thiosulphate it is reacted with the feed gas stream under conditions to absorb H2S selectively. The process then continues as above, and during oxidn. of H2S, thiosulphate is also removed as sulphur by reaction with the H2S.
