Abstract

The key (99) comprises a single or multicharacter non-specific display with a keytop (100) which can be depressed by the operator. Via two rubber 'zebra' strips (103) a liquid crystal display (102) is connected to a printed circuit board (104) on which two dies (105) are located. The dies via selected pins (106) are connected to one end of a flexible printed strip (107) from which the other end is detachable from the connector (108) which is located on a base plate (109). The key is programmable to alter the function of the key and the display is programmable to alter it as required with respect to the function output of the key.
