Abstract

Appts. for volatilising insecticide, etc. impregnated in lozenges, disks or mats eliminates need for electricity and danger of live flame by using the heat of reaction of a volatile fuel and a catalyst in air. Alcohol, pref. C2H6O or CH3OH, or liquefied gas, e.g., LPG or CH3OCH3, in a bottom most tank rises through a space to enter a container holding a catalyst, e.g., Pt or Pd, and reacts with the catalyst and is oxidised, so producing a combustion gas which passes through an upper space and is vented to the exterior via side holes, an upper space and vent holes. The heat of the oxidn. reaction heats a radiator plate that is on top of the appts. and carries, e.g., a 35 x 22 x 2.8mm fibre mat impregnated with 1 ml of insecticide. The appts. may include various control valves, etc. and can be used indoors or outdoors as an insecticide or germicide dispenser, room freshener or deodoriser.
