Abstract
Iron oxide residues from iron and steelworkers are inspected and/or crushed; dried; mixed with binder; and formed into briquettes. The green briquettes are fed directly into the shaft furnace and descend uniformly. Coal dust is pref. added during the redn. process. Dosing of the iron oxide, binder and any other addn. may by by wt. or vol. Pref. 0.5-6 wt.% binder is used in the mixt., and 1-10-wt.% coal dust is pref. added with the green briquettes entering the furnace. The pref. plant includes a sieve; magnetic separator; mill; dryer; hoppers; dosers; a mixter, and a briquetting machine, from which any fines are recycled. Residues or waste can be made into green briquettes which require no roasting before use in the redn. furnace.
