Abstract
Cyclopropyl derivs. of formula (I), and their physiologically acceptable salts, bioxyprecursors and hydrates are new In the formula, A = benzene ring or carbocyclic aromatic system of 2 or 3 condensed benzene rings attached to the N-contg. ring on adjacent C atoms. Each benzene ring is opt. substd. by halo, alkyl, aryl, OH, acyloxy, alkoxy or, an adjacent C atoms. by OCH2O. R1 and R2 = H, 1-6C opt. substd alkyl, COOH or alkoxycarbonyl, R3 and R4 = H, 1-6C opt. substd. alkyl, OH, alkoxy, COOH or alkoxycarbonyl, but >=1 must be H. Also new are the intermediate imides of formula (V), (where R3' and R4' are both H or one may also be alkyl, hydroxymethyl or alkoxycarbonyl). (I) have CNS, esp. antidepressant, activity some having reduced side effects compared with known antidepressants. They are administered in standard formulations at 100-5 mg per unit dose.
