The control for the actuation of the clutch includes a pressure relief fluid control valve and a stepping motor drive connected to control actuation of the valve. The drive progressively moves the valve from a first to a second position at a first predetermined rate and moves the valve from the second position to a third position at a second rate. The valve progressively increases actuating pressure to the clutch so that the driven load may be accelerated at a first rate during movement of the valve at the first rate. The load is accelerated at a second rate during valve movement at the second rate.
