Abstract
A dentifrice compsn., pref. neutral or weakly alkaline (esp. pH 7-9), contains synthetic hydroxyapatite powder (I). Pref. (I) has average particle size about 2 microns and max. size 10 microns or less. The compsn. may also contain one or more of citric acid, lactic acid, acetic acid, pyrrolic acid, glutamine, proline, serine, glycine, and pref. also 0.1-20 wt.% NaCl and/or KCl, and 0.003-3 wt.% MgCl2. The compsn. is very effective for removing plaque and, when the chlorides are present, also has a fortifying and remineralising effect on the anamel.
