Abstract

In a blow moulding machine a parison is extruded downwardly between a pair of mould halves mounted on supports slidable in opposite directions over a hollow shaft. A bush is centrally located on the shaft to delimit the closure movement of the mould halves, and the supports and the bush are keyed to the shaft against rotation relative to the shaft. The shaft is carried by a saddle located directly under the bush and the saddle is slidable down an inclined guide from the extrusion station to a blowing station. A blade cuts the parison as the mould assembly moves down the guide and the open upper end of the resultant parison is engaged by a blowing nozzle at the blowing station. After blowing, the mould is opened and the mould assembly propelled back up the guide to the extrusion station. The blown article is hooked off the nozzle and dropped into a conveyor. The mould half supports are actuated by a piston and cylinder mechanism under the guidance of a device for equalising the movement of the mould halves. The mould support and actuating arrangement reduces the various stresses and strains on the arrangement.
