Abstract

The rear axle for a car includes two rigid longitudinal swinging arms (14) interconnected by a cross-beam (12) which is resistant to bending but exhibits torsional flexibility. The cross-beam consists of a U-shaped channel, the cross base (22) of which is uppermost. Each end of the cross-beam has an inclined portion (22a) sloping towards the swinging arm (14) and carries a strengthening arm (24) the end of which (28) locates about and is welded to the swinging arm (14). The strengthening arms (24) support carriers (38) which provide a surface onto which the suspension coil springs bear.
