Abstract

Electrode structure for applying unidirectional electric current through the skin of a living body comprises a first electrically conductive electrode having a porous material over 3 mm thick on its skin contacting side, and a second electrode which contacts the skin on a location spaced from the first electrode. The electrodes are connected to a unidirection current source with the first electrode connected to the negative pole. Used for applying current to the human body, e.g. to inhibit perspiration. Prior electrodes have produced vesiculation or blisters due to the current rather than heat. New electrode prevents this. Porous material can be felt, viscose rayon, polyester resin, or a foam which is moistened with water. The structure may have a number of first electrodes which are in intermingled space adjacency with a number of second electrodes.
