Abstract

Two separate passages provide flow paths between the mixing chamber and the exterior and each passage can be equipped independently for flow in either direction, pref. by fitting fixed or removable non-return valves. The mixing chamber is pref. made of transparent material, e.g. glass or clear plastic, and has a rectangular cross-section. Used for the mixing and dilution of liquids in routine laboratory tests, partic. repetitive testing of a microbiological sample and esp. testing cultures at progressively diluted concentrations. Operation in the syringe piston with preset travel is used to measure volumes to be mixed. This means that repetitive testing can be carried out by comparatively unskilled assistants with little training. After several dilutions a final concn. of mixture can be left for incubation and examination in the transparent syringe chamber.
