Abstract

An anaerobically curing compsn. comprises: (a) polyorganosiloxane, soluble in common solvents, consisting of >=2 siloxane units of formula CH2=C(R)COOR1 Si O-x/2 and residual siloxane units of formula R'y SiO4-y/2 (II); (b) hydroperoxy polymerisation initiator and (c) storage stabiliser; the compsn. remaining uncured in presence of O2 at room temp. R is H, or CH3, R' is a gp. free of aliphatic unsatn selected from (halo) hydrocarbons, R1 is 1-4C alkylene, x is 1-4 and y is 0-3 (a) has degree of functionality of 2.2-5.0, pref. 2.2-4.0. The compsns. have thermal stability, long term shelf stability in presence of oxygen and are readily anaerobically. They are used to seal small vols. between >=2 meeting surfaces and may be applied to the threads of a steel bolt and/or nut. Other surfaces to be sealed include an activating surface of an active metal and an inactive material such as of glass, Cd, Ti and Zn.
