Abstract

The compsn. is prepd. by (a) dispersing a 1-3C nitroparaffin in the form of fine particles in an aq. soln. of an oxidising agent, (b) incorporating within this dispersion a gelling agent for liq. nitroparaffin phase, (c) simultaneously gelling the aq. phase and the nitroparaffin phase, and (d) stirring the gelled compsn. until the desired viscosity is obtd. The aq. solns. of the oxidising agent also contains a gelling agent and a crosslinking agent for this soln. Gives dispersions contg. very fine nitroparaffin droplets of size 0.5-500 mu. These dispersions are very stable, the droplets showing practically no tendency to migrate or separate. The compsns. are sensitive towards normal detonators, esp. detonator No. 6, and have a good moisture resistance.
