Abstract
Anticoccidial cycloaliphatyloxy or mercapto 4 oxygenated 3 quinolinecarboxylic acids.. are new compds. of the formula: (in which R is cycloaliphatic, A is direct bond or bivalent aliphatic, X = O or S, Ph = 1,2-phenylene R1 = H, lower alkyl, alkenyl, free etherified or esterified OH or carboxyalkyl, aminoglcyl, R-A or aralkyl and R2 = H or lower alkyl), including pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts and derivs. thereof. The compds. are prepared by known methods and have anticoccidial activity, being used as compositions, feedstuffs, additives or drinking water containing the active compound alone or in combination with other therapeutic agents for the control of coccidiosis and for growth promotion. The compounds also have anti-bacterial and antiprotozoal activity. Preferred compounds are 5,7-bis-cyclopropylmethoxy-4-hydroxy-3-quinoline carboxylic acid and 6-cyclopropylmethoxy-7-n-decyloxy-4-hydroxy-3-quinoline carboxylic acid and their methyl and ethyl esters and 4-acetate.
