Abstract

Methyl-4-pentene-1 is polymsd. at above room temp. in the presence of H2 and Ziegler-Natta catalyst comprising TiCl3 and alkyl aluminium with a ratio ti:Al of 1-1:100, the process being characterised by being effected (a) at 50-150 degrees C, (b) in presence of an inert gas chosen from N, He, Ne, Ar and/Or Krypton, (c) under a total pressure of 3-20 atmos., and (d) an inert gas partial pressure of 0.1-17 atm. and H2 partial pressure of 0.01-10 atmos. The polymer formed has the same degree of crystallinity as prior part polymers, but the present process gives a much improved yield. Used for prodn. of injection mouldings e.g. laboratory and medical items of good transparency and resistant to temp. up to 150 degrees C.
