Abstract

In a process for bending a glass sheet through a sharp angle there is first applied to one face at least along the line of bend a band of colouring agent, over which is superimposed a layer of electrically conducive material through which is then passed a current of sufficient magnitude and duration to locally heat the glass to its bending temp. while at the same time forming a decoratively coloured stripe. Excess colouring agent may then be removed. Pref. thecolouring agent is a black pigment, possibly together with a frit, and is applied by silk screen printing. Prior to passage of the heating current the sheet may be preheated to 900-1150 degrees F. The process is used to form glass sheets for motor vehicle windscreens and windows. The yellow-brown stain resulting from application of a silver-based conducting path directly to the glass is replaced by a decorative band of selected colour.
