Abstract
The purpose of the present invention is to prevent the accumulation of ashes while preventing the deterioration in an PM trapping rate in a wall flow type particulate filter. For achieving the purpose the present invention provides a wall flow type particulate filter which is partitioned by a porous dividing wall having such a pore size that ashes or aggregates of ashes can pass through the porous dividing wall wherein a coat layer having a smaller pore size than that of the dividing wall is provided in a region lying between an upstream side end part of the dividing wall and a position short of a downstream side end part of the dividing wall.
