Abstract

ABSTRACT A method and system for selecting an optimal DRX configuration for a User Equipment (UE) in a communication network is provided. An expression for expected maximum delay experienced by a packet arriving during the off-duration is derived for any packet arrival process (either known arrival process or unknown arrival process). Further, the method for computing the active duration in any DRX cycle with the expected delay to be less than a given threshold by considering all the timers in the communication network is provided. The DRX cycle configuration with minimum active duration is selected as optimal DRX configuration by the UE and UE informs the optimal DRX configuration to the network. FIG. 4
