Description

A FIXTURE FOR USE IN THE ASSEMBLY OF SUB-DIVIDED WINDOW FRAMES τηρ^ιη» ·μ!?η nin¾on ni^nni vn»>wi? yipn I OF SUB-DIVIDED WINDOW FRAMES The present invention relates to the construction of windows, doors and like structures made of extruded shaped bars also known as aluminum profiles.
More specifically, the invention provides for a fixture used in the assembly of such shaped bars, at right-angles to each other, as frequently found in partition frames such as windows, the windows being subdivided by partition bars into a plurality of sub-frames .
In order to subdivide a rectangular window or door frame by the partition bars, it was known to use a fixture in the form of U-shaped flat sheet metal pieces rivetted to the frame members whereby the legs of the U are adapted to be inserted into the hollows of the partition bars, therby holding same in place.
According to an improvement in this field, as. reflected in Israel Patent No. 72062 dated June 8, 1984 (Arieli), the U-shaped connectors were replaced by a block-like fixture, made of plastic or metal, bearing the counter configuration of the assembly rib of the particular frame.
It has been found that this' fixture block provided only a partial solution to the constructors, in that for each kind of frame profile a specific block must be used, the result being that constructors must stock a multiplicity of blocks , each type of block only being suitable" for use in one type of frame.
T us, t e pr me o ect o t e nvent on s o prov e a multi-purpose fixture block which can be used with two or more standard shaped frame members .
It is thus provided according to the invention a fixture for the assembly of one extruded shaped bar to another, hollow, shaped extruded bar, at right-angles one to the other, particularly for sub-division of windows, comprised of a rectangular frame and a plurality of hollow division bars, the fixture comprised of a block dimensioned to snugly fit inside any of the division bars, at least one side of the block being provided with an elongated profiled rib or recess matching a complementary recess or rib provided on the said frame, characterized in that the block is provided with more than one rib/recess of different shapes, enabling mounting of the division bars to different standards of frames .
The invention will be more clearly understood in light of the following detailed1 description with reference to the attached drawings illustrating a preferred embodiment thereof, wherein - Fig. 1 is a schematic representation of a divided window frame; Fig. 2 is a three dimentional view of one, standard shaped frame bar; Fig. 3 shows another standard frame bar; Figs. 4a and 4b show, in two positions, a fixture block for use with both shaped bars of Figs. 1 and 3; Fig. 5 is a partly sectional view of a window frame and partition frame bars assembled by the fixure block of Fig. 4; F g. 6 s a si e-view of Fig. 5; Fig. 7 shows the assembly of the frame bar of Fig. 3 with the fixture block of Fig. 4; and, Fig. 8 is a side view of the assembly of Fig. 7.
In Fig. 1 there is shown frame 10 comprised of four frame members denoted 12, forming a rectangular shape,' partitioned by partition bars denoted 14.
The frame members 12', 12'' may be of the configuration shown in Fig. 2, namely, hollow with a pair of elongated ribs 16a and 16b extending therealong; or of the configuration shown in Fig. 3, namely, provided with an L-shaped rib 18, respectively.
In fact, these two standards of shaped bars are the most common for the purposes in question: one is for glass window frames and the other is for window screen frames .
Hence, fixture block 20 shown in both Figs. 4a and. 4b, (one being inverted with respect to the other), is generally cube-shaped, bearing at one side thereof a pair of elongated recesses 16a' and 16b' which conform the ribs 16a and 16b of the profile 12' of Fig. 2.
At the other side of block 20, an L-shaped recess 18' is provided, conforming to the rib 18 of the bar 12'' shown in Fig . 3. , Should bar 12' be used for a window frame as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the block 20 will be used for sliding along ribs 16a and 16b while recess 18' does not serve any function.
A partition bar 22 is assembled by eing resse over and snugly fit to block 20; It is necessary to cut-out a portion 22a at each side of the bar 22, to provide room for the ribs 16.
Should profile 12'' be used as a basic frame bar, the same block 20 is used in engagement with the rib 18, as seen in Fig. 8. Again, partition bar 22 is provided with the same cut-out 22a as explained above.
It goes without saying that, should other frame-shaped bars become widely used in the art of window constructions, the same block 20 can easily be adapted_ for any such modified ribbing as to allow its assembly by the same fixture block.
It is further regarded as an advantage of the multi-purpose block that its size can be made as slim as necessary for use in conjunction with more delicate profiles than hereinbefore known.
Various changes and modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art of doors and windows construction and assembly.

Claims (3)

96027/2 WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:
1. A fixture for the assembly of one extruded shaped bar to another, hollow, shaped extruded bar, at right- angles one to the other, particularly for subdivision of windows comprised of a rectangular frame and a plurality of hollow division bars, the fixture comprised of a block dimensioned to snugly fit inside any of the division bars, at least one side of the block being provided with an elongated profiled rib or recess matching a complementary recess or rib provided on the said frame, characterized in that the block is provided with at-least two and up to six ribs/recesses of different shapes, enabling mounting of the division bars to a corresponding number of different standards of frames.
2. The fixture as claimed in Claim 2 wherein the block is provided with a double-rib recess at one of its sides, and with an L-shaped recess at another of its sides.
