Description

IN ROTATIONAL SPRINKLERS The present invention relates to water sprinklers and more particularly to that type of sprinklers which utilizes an oscillating mechanism for turning the sprinkler in a circle or part This oscillating mechanism is driven by the jet of water which issues from the nozzle of the More particularly this invention relates to sprinklers which are intended for installation at places where it is desired to sprinkle only part of a and not to let the sprinkler perform a full circle rotation about Such an arrangement usually required near the wall of a house where only the area in front of the wall is to be without wetting the wall The same applies at locations along In sprinklers of that type the water jet on an oscillating mechanism roughly of propeller shape which swings about a substantially vertical The jet impinges on one of the blades of the propellor usually extends obliquely relative to the vertical in a region between a point intermediate the said axis and the outer tip of the and that outer This region will be to as of Sprinklers of this type are provided with adjustable devices delimiting the rotational movement to a certain arch of the The respective arch is determined by stops which the rotational that with sprinklers of this type due to the reaction between the water jet and the oscillating an objectionable secondary spray is obtained which waters an area beyond the predetermined Thus spray would be experienced on walls of where this is not desired or might even be It has already been in Patent 3022012 to provide the said oscillating mechaniem a propeller like device which is met by the jet of water in the form as an S shaped reaction This shaped member may either be a tube o may be a channel with a C the open side of which is It has now been found that even the provision of the member according to the said Patent does not fully eliminate the undesirable secondary as will become clear from the with reference to the 1 of the accompanying 1 illustrates in a schematical manner the state of matters as experienced with the use of a device according to the above mentioned In the drawing the faces of the oscillating member are shown by two curves a and The water jet is indicated by the letter The of is designated by the Indication The boundary line delimiting the area to be watered is designated while the said area itself is designated The neighbouring area which should remain dry marked Water gushes from a nozzle n and strikes the face a of the within the zone of impact Part of the water is deflected and reaches the area da which should remain It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a sprinkler of the type referred comprising a spraying nozzle actuating the oscillating the said oscillating mechanism comprising a reaction member of C profile and being curved stantially v the shape of an S or characterised thereby that the leading end of the said reaction member is extended along a curved line beyond the zone of impact on said reaction the curvature of such extension forming a convexity towards the open side of the reaction According to a further feature of the invention the said end is fluted along the said According to yet another feature of the invention the trailing end of the oscillating member is provided with a cut in the form of a semi circle or a The invention will now be described with reference the annexed drawings which show the invention as applied to a conventional sprinkler as referred to in the introductory paragraph of the In the drawing 2 is an elevational view of a sprinkler of the type referred to while 3 is a top view of the reaction member and a section on record 1 by means of which the sprinkler can be screwed on to a The water rises through a vertical conduit 2 to reach the nozzle which delivers the watering spray and which oscillates the oscillating This nozzle is indicated schematically at 3t The S or Z shaped reaction member is indicated as a whole by the numeral The numeral 5 an adjustable detent which in known manner is used to delimit the movement of the sprinkler through a predetermined Turning now to 3 and the reaction member which is mounted turnably on stud 6 has roughly the shape of an elongated S as seen in 3 and its profile is that of a C as seen in In practice a water Jet which emerges from nozzle 3 enters the open side of the oscillating member and the water gushes within the path of the open sidewardly directed channel and emerges without creating the undesirable secondary his absolute effect is reached by the provision of the curved portion 0 which forms an extension of the member beyond the zone of the convexity of the curvature facing the open side of the It should be understood that the force cheated by the Jet emerging from the nozzle and the reaction thereof serves as a driving force moving the sprinkler in its rotational guiding the spray to eliminate undesirable secondary spray would mean a loss of driving This loss is spite of the fact that guide means for the spray have been added to the conventional reaction The curvature at while not affecting the assume a desired direction within a predetermined area wa according to the example of As can be seen in the inside of the channel at that poitit is longitudinally fluted at 7 which desired effect of directing the spray into the direction At the end of the oscillating member the latter is provided with a cut out 8 which has the following The oscillating after having been swung sidewardly by the jet and being out of the reac of the swings back under urge of a spring 9 as is known On its return travel the trailing end of the oscillating member cuts across the Due to the cut out at that the cut across is not abrupt but occurs facilitating the of the oscillating insufficientOCRQuality
