Description

CORB WINDiaQ AND FIXING AID The present invention relates to a device for use as an aid in winding and fixing a cord or a thin wire around and about a solid body. Such aids are required for instance in tying up a parcel or in the produce of a spatial body by winding a cord on a solid core. The core may be an inflated body, the cord being wound thereon in windings close to one another or spaced from. one another. After completion of the winding operation, the cord is hardened and stiffened by being dipped - while still on the core - in an appropriate mass like a thermo setting material or is sprayed with such a mass.
As a result a spatial body is obtained having a smooth or gridlike appearance - dependant on the manner in which the cord has been wound Finally the core may be removed so that the body constituted by windings of cord represents the desired final article. Such articles may be lampshades or like commodities.
The device according to the present invention is intended to facilitate the winding and to orientate the extension of stretches of cord while being wound.
According to the invention there is provided a plate of cross or spiderlike formation, the ends of the arms of the cross or spider being bent double.
In a prefered embodiment of the invention the said arms are slitted across part of their width in the fold of the bend at the end of the said arms.
So that the invention may be better understood it will now be described with reference to the annexed drawing which constitutes an example of such a device. It should be remarked that this is one example and devices according to the invention may be quite differently formed, as will be understood from the description.
In the example of the drawing the aid is shown in use during the operation of tying up a parcel* The parcel is in broken lines and is indicated by the letter "P". The new device, as a whole is indicated by the numeral lf In the example shown the device has cross shape and is constituted by a center portion 2 from which radiate arms 3. The ends of the arms indicated by the numerals are bent double as can be seen in the drawing. When using such a device preferably part of the width of the arms 3 at the fold between the major part of the arm 3 and the folded over portion 3 at points 4 is severed from the main portion by providing a slit at 4.
In tying up the parcel cord indicated by 5 is used. First the end of the cord at 6 is inserted into the slit of arm 3a at 4, so that it is clampingly held therein. Thus the cord can be wound and slung about the parcel as indicated in the example of the drawing by the arrows. As can fee seen the cord starting from the end 6 is led and slung about a lower corner of respective folded over portion! 3 . From here the cord is passed on again as seen in the drawing, slung over the corner of the parcel at the rear thereof (not seen in the drawing) to reach the arm 3c from which its course continues, always in the direction of the arrows shown to arm 3d and from that back to arm 3a where its end 7 is secured in slit 4 provided in the manner described.
As has been stated this is only one example. It is clear that the new aid may have the shape of a spider with more than four arms and such a device will be used where the parcel is not exactly a four sided prism but has an irregular shape or is of a size so that it is advisable to use an aid permitting and offering more points of attachment than the four armed aid.
It will easily be understood that it is possible to use two such aids at opposite sides of a parcel.
The use of the device in making the said articles by winding the cord on a core is self nderstood.
The device is placed on the core and after having slung the cord fixed in the winding device about the core, the winding may proceed at will in any manner appropriate to the shape of the article to be produced.
It should also be mentioned that device? according to the invention can be inscribed or imprinted with advertising texts or with the name of a supplier of goods which are contained in the parcel tied by means and with the aid of the new device. Thus valuable advertising aid is constituted by the new device.
