Abstract

Electrolysis cell esp. for the electrolysis of NaCl soln., with a casing, an anode, a cathode and a diaphragm which is practically impermeable to liquids and gas and separates the anode and the cathode is characterised by the diaphragm consisting of a hydrolysed copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and sulphonated perfluorovinyl ether of formula FSO2CF2CF2OCF(CF3)CF2OCF = CF2 with a mol. wt. of 900-1600, pref. 1100-1400. The diaphragm prevents undesirable molecular and ionic migration, but allows conduction of electrical current by movement of desirable ions. [BE793078A1]

Claims (2)

1. A process for. repairing damaged sections of hydrolyzed copolymers of tetrafluoroethylene and a sulfonated perfluoro-vinylether haying the formula - PSO C:F C-? OOE(CP,)CF OCF=CI? ά ά d. ά d .1 said copolymer having an equivalent weight of from aboutllOO to 1400 xihieh comprises ^ (a formin a solution of a second, hydrolyzed copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and a sulfonated perfluoroethyl ether of the above^ formula, said second copolymer having an equivalent weight of from about 900~to 1000 in a lower hydrocarbon alkanol, —-( ) ^wetting the area adjacent to-the damaged area of the damaged copolymer^ with said solution, —;—- (c) covering the wetted area with a patch of hydrolyzed copolymer of equivalent x
