Description

IMPROVEMENT IN AIR HUMIDIFYING APPARATUS The present invention relates to an air humidifying apparatus , particularly to such apparatus for donastic use* In these apparatus water is converted into water vapours which escape into the air in a room and the eby increase the moisture oontent of the air, making it mora pleasant for inhalation by persona occupying the respective room* It is also known to add to the water vapours certain substances such as imparting pleasant odour to the air or aubstanoes having therapeutic effeot or to have theae substances placed in a position where their vapou a are carried along by the escaping water vapou a* Apparatus of this kind usually comprise a container for the water into which dip electrodes which can be connected to the grid and which upon being heated cause the water to vapouriae* It ia the object of this invention to improve the function of the apparatus and particularly the safety thereof. The electrodes used in such apparatus are usually enclosed in a casing into which the water entera to come Into contact with the electrodes, upon retrieving the said oaaing from the water container* while there is still water In it, water drips from the said oaaing and still being in contact with the naked electrodes constitutes a source of haaarde* The present invention strives at removing this hazardous drawback* Aooerdlng to the invention the oaaing within which the electrodes are housed is provided at its botto with ia non raturn valve the function of which permits water to flow freely from the casing whan tha latter is lifted out of the main container, but which oloses automatically when the casing is Inserted into the main container.
■ * These end fur ther fea tures of the Invention will < become clear from the followin description which refers to the annexed drawings · In the drawings Fig. 1 is an eleva tlonal section of the new apparatus , partly in frac tion, while Pig. 2 is a top vie thereof (Fig. 1 la a seotlon on line I--I of Fig* 2) · Fig* 3 illus trates in an undernea th view the bottom of the housing in which the electrodes are accommodated. Figs , h and 3 illus trate the function of the non-return valves at the bottom of the said housing.
Turning now to Figs . 1 and 2, a container indicated by the numeral 1 has a oiroular aperture 2 in its top wall, into the said aper ture ia inserted the housing containing the electrodes , said housing being indicated as a whole by the numeral 3. The housing is provided with an but Jutting circular flange k which comes to rest on the top wall 1· of oontalner 1 and is secured agains t lateral displacement by a circular ridge 5 on top wall 1* of containe 1. The casing 3 can be secured against unintentional removal by means of two screw bolts 6 passing through the top wall 1» of oontalner 1 and held on top i wall It of tba container by means of nuts 8. Within the casing 3 are provided two electrodes 7 (only one of which is seen ) and which are connected to the mains by means of a flex 9· In the flange 4 is provided a recess 10 in which is aooonunodated a ourvad tray 11 for a purpose s till to be described. In the bottom of the casing 3 is provided an opening 12 through which extende a hollow rivet 17 and a t an upwardly extending extension of the casing Indicated by the numeral 13 is provided an outlet nocsle X which le osi ioned on to of the tra 1 m o Around the hole 12 In the bottom of the casing are ^ provided three large holes 15 over which extend so t rubber or like flaps 16 which are held in position by the said hollow rivet 17 V permitting passage into the interior of the housing 3* The new apparatus functions a follows $ wate is filled into the container 1 up to near its top wall. Water of course enters through the opening 12 in the casing 3 and once the current is switched on the water in the casing 3 is converted into water vapours which leave through the nozzle l4. Leaving through that nozzlo the vapours pass across the -tmrp LI and if olatile ma terial or a therapeutic substance is filled into that tray it is taken along by the passing vapours and its vapours with the water vapours escapee nto the room whe e •n s . . · . .· · \ the apparatus is installed* > : >■ V· ' When the easing is inserted into the container 1 water enters immediately through the opening 12 but cannot enter through the holes 15 which are covered b the flaps 16 since these latter by the downward movement of container (see Fig* ) are urged against the bottom of the housin 3 and thus seal the openings 15. On the othe hand when lifting the casing from the Container the water within the casing presses against the flaps 16 urging fP** downwards uncovering the holes 15 so tha 'the . water ■ quickl flows out. keeping the electrodes dry. uis, there is no danger of a person becoming harmed by contact with the water which constitutes a stream still in contact with the eleotrodes * - The arrangement of tray 11 withi the recess 10 la of great advantage since it can he removed and cleaned when sediments have formed and it can alao be exchanged should it had been corroded by the material stored therein*
