Abstract

1437250 Furnace carbon black CABOT CORP 23 Nov 1973 [2 April 1973 (2)] 54443/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division C3] A furnace carbon black has a value for the tint factor relationship of (tint + 0À6 (D a )], where D a is apparent diameter, of 311-316; a value for the tint contribution ratio of tint to tint factor of 0À75-0À82; a pH value of at least 4; an iodine surface area of 67-145 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. and a value for the BET total surface area of less than 160 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. This carbon black may be used as a reinforcing filler in compositions containing natural or synthetic rubber in amounts of from 10-250 parts by weight of black to 100 parts by weight of rubber and the compositions vulcanized to give rubber products. The synthetic rubbers listed include chlorinated and styrene/butadiene types. Details of test methods, vulcanizing agents and other rubber compounding additives are given.
