Claims (4)

43621/2 What I claim is:- 1
1. A diaphragm operated valve, comprising a housing having le~ \\> 7 an inlet, an outlet, and a valve seat located therebetween, a disc-like valve body mounted in the housing for movement toward and away from the valve seat, a pressure-responsive diaphragm^mounted in the housing for flexure toward and away from the valve seat with one side confronting the valve seat, vent in said housing for communicating to the other side >f the diaphragm a medium at a constant pressure, a rigid shaft extending through the valve seat and connecting the valve body to the diaphragm so that flexure of the diaphragm displaces the valve body, the diaphragm and shaft being operable to maintain the valve body normally engaged with the valve seat to block flow through the housing and -the valve body having a predetermined area which is at least as great as that of^ a predetermined area of the diaphragm for causing the valve to open and close in response to variation in inlet and outlet^ pressures relative to said constant pressure.
2. A valve according to claim 1, wherein said area of the valve body is substantially the same as that of the diaphragm so that the valve will open when the pressure at the outlet is lower than that of said constant pressure. ^
3. A valve according to claim 1, wherein said area of thja valve body is greater than said area of the diaphragm with the ratio between the areas being selected so that the pressure' at the outlet is maintained at a predetermined fraction of \ pressure at the inlet. \ ·
