Abstract
1407170 Stud and socket fastenings MOTOROLA INC 6 July 1973 [9 Aug 1972] 32327/73 Heading E2B [Also in Divisions F2, H2 and H3] In a battery operated electrical device including a first housing part 10 arranged to contain electrical equipment such as a radio or an electric shaver and a second housing part 16 arranged to contain a battery, the first and second ports are detachably interconnected by a projection 24 on one part and a matching opening 18 in the other part which have a first relative position where the projection 24 may be inserted in the opening 18 and a second rotary displaced relative position where the projection 24 is held in the opening 18 and an arcuate-shaped rib 28 on one part is received in a slot 22 on the other part with the rib 28 moved into locking engagement within the slot 22 as the projection 24 is rotated to the second position within the opening 18. In the radio device shown part 16 has contacts 40 which engage spring biased contact surfaces 44 secured to the housing 10. When assembling the parts 10, 16 a protruding lip 26 on the projection 24 is inserted into a cut out 20 of the opening 18 and the rib 28 is inserted into the slot 22. By rotating the housing parts the lip 26 fits into a cavity 21 to lock the parts together. Also the wedge shaped rib 28 enters the wedge shaped slot 22 to provide a second interlocking connection between the housing parts. When assembled the projecting end 30 engages an end 25 of a side 23 on the housing 10. The housing parts 10 and 16 can be moulded of plastics material or die cast in metal. A latch 32 is provided which includes a spring biased slide (33, Fig 4, not shown) having an end 36 which has to be pressed in to disengage a projection 35 extending from the slide (33) from a notch 39 on the rib into a recess 38 in the housing part 10 so as to allow rotary disengagement of the housing parts.
