Abstract
The invention provides an improved apparatus for the irregular local treatment of yarn, for example for non-continuous dyeing of textile yarn. The yarn is moved through one or more treatment zones at constant or varying velocity and is sprayed with a treatment fluid from a moving nozzle. According to the invention at least one of the drive mechanisms for the yarn or nozzle is of variable speed.

Claims (8)
1. Apparatus for the local treatment of at least one yarn, moving continuously axially, _ including _a drive mechanism for driving the yarn to be treated, at least one nozzle mounted on a mobile support and fed by a conduit conveying a treatment fluid, the plane of the fluid jet at the outlet of the nozzle intersecting the yarn to be treated and being preferably substantially perpendi- cular to the said yarn, and ·) a drive mechanism for the nozzle support for imparting a reciprocating motion to it, wherein means are provided for varying the speed of the drive mechanism for driving the yarn to be treated and/or the drive mechanism for the nozzle support during the treatment.
2. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein at least one of the drive mechanisms has a periodically variable speed.

Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 heaving a plurality of nozzles along the path of the same yarn, and including in combination a mechanism for driving the supports of the nozzles, this mechanism including means for varying the speed of the supports during the treatment, a medanism enabling the relative phase shift of the movements of the nozzle supports to be varied during the treatment, and means for synchronisation of these two mechanisms.

Apparatus as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the mechanism for driving the yarn includes : means for moving the yarn at constant velocity, there being between said means and the zone of operation of the nozzle three yarn^guides , the outer two of which are fixed; and means for displacing the middle yarn guide relative to the line joining the outer two.
5. Apparatus as claimed in claim 4 wherein the middle yarn- guide is mounted on a support displaceable along a path having at most one point in common with the linear course of the yarn between the two end yarn-guides.
6. Apparatus as claimed in claim 5 wherein the support of the middle yarn-guide is reciprocable , and means are provided to reciprocate it during the treatment.
7. Apparatus as claimed in claim 6, wherein means are provided for varying periodically the frequences of the reciprocation of the middle yarn-guide during the treatment. ; ,
8. Apparatus for the local treatment of at least one yarn, substantially as hereinbefore described, with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
