Claims (10)
1. Benzyl cyclopropane-carboxylate derivatives of general formula: wherein Hal represents a halogen atom; ^ represents an alkyl or phenyl group; g and each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; and the groups X^-X^, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen or halogen atom, or an alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy, alkoxyalkyl, alkenyloxy, alkynyloxy, alkynyloxyalkyl , benzyl, benzoyl, benzyloxy or phenylthio, phenoxy or alkylphenoxy group, or at most one pair of adjacent groups chosen from Χχ-Χ5 ( together represent a methylenedioxy group,, with the proviso that all the groups Χχ-Χ5 do not simultaneousl -each represent a hydrogen atom.

Benzyl cyclopropane^arboxylate derivatives as claimed in claim 1 wherein Hal represents a chlorine atom; represents a methyl or phenyl group; and X each represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; X-^ represents a hydrogen or chlorine atom or a methyl, methoxy or phenoxy group; Xg represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl, methoxy, isopropoxy, . butoxy, methoxymethyl,.jpropenyloxy,.._ propynyloxy benzyl, benzoyl, benzyloxy, phenoxy or tolyloxy group; -j represents a hydrogen atom or a methy-L methox -methyl, propenyl, propynyloxymethyl, benzyl, phenoxy or phenylthio group, or Xg and X, together represent a methyl enedioxy group; and X^ represents a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom or a methyl or methoxy group.
3. Benzyl eyelopropane^carboxylate derivatives as claimed in claim 2, wherein and Rg each represents a methyl group and R^ represents a hydrogen atom»

5. A process for preparing benzyl eyelopropane^carbox late derivatives as claimed in claim 1 -which comprises reacting a cyclopropane carboxylic acid of formula: with a benzyl halide of formula: wherein Y represents a halogen atom. 414 34/2
6. A process for preparing benzyl cyclopropane-carboxylate derivatives as claimed in claim 1 which comprises reacting an acid halide of formula: wherein Z represents a halogen atom with a benzyl alcohol derivative of formula: HOCHg X.
7. A process according to claim 5 or 6 in which. the reaction is carried out in the presence of a hydrogen halide acceptor.
8. Benzyl cyclopropane-carboxylate derivatives as claimed in claim 1 when prepared by a process according to any one of the claims 5-7.
9. Insecticidal and acaricidal compositions comprising a carrier and/or a surface-active agent together with, as active ingredient, a benzyl cyclopropane-carboxylate derivative as claimed in any one of the claims 1-4 or 8.
10. A method of combating insect and/or arachnid pests at a locus which comprises applying to the locus a pesticidall _ effective amount of a benzyl cyclopropane-carboxylate derivative as claimed in any one of the claims 1-4 or 8 or a composition "as claimed in claim 9.
