Description

PATTERN DISC FOR TUBULAR KNITTING MACHINES The present invention relates to pattern wheels for knitting in general and to those of the circular type in Conventional pattern wheels employed in such knitting machines comprise a wheel with inclined or slots within which are individually positioned and fixed the jacks for selectively trolling the needles o the these jacks engaging the butts of the The jacks are normally of two types and are positioned one at a time within the slots of the wheel in a predetermined order and in accordance with the stitch pattern which is to be while certain other slots of the where the needles are to remain are left without jacks of either These conventional pattern wheels display a practical because whenever the stitch pattern is to be it is necessary to disassemble the wheels in order to get to the and to remove them and then replace them in a different in conformity with the required This results in a considerable loss of time and with the ensuing high costs of It the main object of the present invention to overcome the disadvantages of the heretofore known pattern wheels by an improved wheel which has a plurality of millings or slots in each of which are positioned two one on the suitably shaped and positionable radially independently of each so that their outer ends may act upon the butts of the needles when in a working position and so as to cause the needles to remain idle when the jacks are displaced toward the center or hub of the These 4 jacks are clamped in their respective working or idle positions by a lid or cover and secured to the wheel and having means with a stop provided on each individual It is another object of the present invention to provide a patter wheel which allows the rapid positioning of the jacks to a working or idle position without removal of the but simply by radially displacing them towards the periphery or toward the center o the depending on the pattern and design to be made by the to present invention is therefore vided a knitting machine pattern including a disc with a plurality of radial slots secured to a hub and rotatable about a pivot a lid concentric with said a pair of jacks placed one on top of the other in at least one of the the two jacks of each pair being of different lengths and positionable independently of each a stop provided on each of said radially offset with respect to stop on the other jack of the and ring channels in said lid with which the stops of the jacks locatably These and other objects of the invention wi become more apparent from the following detailed description thereof in conjunction with the accompanying in which Figure 1 is a radial view of a pattern wheel of the and Figures 3 and 4 illustrate schematically the positions of a pair of superimposed jacks located in a slot of the disc of Figure pattern wheel of the invention comprises a disc in which is provided a plurality of radial and inclined millings or slots The wheel is ixed means retaining screws to a flange 4 of a central hub has bushings which rotate about a pivot 8 which guides the rotational movement of the wheel 1 on supports o the knitting Within each radial slot 2 of the wheel there are positioned two jacks in contact with each The lower is provided with an intermediate riser 12 and an inner terminal stop 13 with chamfered upper end The upper jack is radially than 10 and is provided with a slot 15 in its lower which slot 15 engages the intermediate riser 12 of the lower but is longer than the width of said riser The upper jack 11 also has an upper intermediate stop 16 with chamfered extremity similarl to stop The two jacks 10 and 11 are placed on on top of the but can be radially displaced and positioned independently of each Associated with the wheel and with the various pairs of jacks is a lid 18 serving to clamp the jacks The lid 18 is engaged by a ring nut 19 threaded to an threaded section of the central hub 5 of the On the inner surface o the lid 18 there are two circular and 20 and The inner 21 engages with stops 13 of the lower jacks 10 and the outer channel 20 with the stops In channel 20 there is a ring 22 which has a pair of circular and concentric seats 24 corresponding to the shaping of the chamfered extremity of stops 16 the upper jacks so as to engage and secure The ring 22 is urged by laminar spring to there is another ring urged downwards by compression springs 27 and having circular and concentric seats corresponding to the chamfered extremity of stops 13 of the lower jacks to secure on hub 5 of the disc there is mounted a retainer 30 to limit the axial displacement of the threaded nut 19 when the lid 18 is to be to prevent accidental removal of the jacks from their With the wheel of the it is by unscrewing the nut to free the lid and then to rapidly position the jacks in the desired slots 2 of the in accordance with the pattern of operation to be applied to the working needles of the After being jacks 11 are secured by simply tightening the 19 so as to clamp the lid 18 on to the during which operation the rings 22 and 26 are pressed on the stops of their respective The two jacks may both be positioned toward the periphery of the as shown in so as to act upon the butts of the needles to bring them into a working as shown in only the lower jack 10 may be displaced toward the phery of the so as to act on the butts of the while the upper jack is displaced toward the so as not to engage the needle both jacks may be displaced toward the see so as not to engage and act upon the butts of the as a remain The positioning of the jacks may be effected without removing them from the as it is the case in conventional The by being mounted in one on the can determine 1. What we claim is :- 1. A knitting machine pattern wheel including a disc with a plurality of radial slots secured to a hub and rotatable about a pivot, and a lid concentric with said disc, a pair of jacks placed one on top of the other in at least one of the slots, the two jacks of the or each pair being of different lengths and positionable independently of each other, a stop provided on each of said jacks, radially offset with respect to the stop on the other jack of the pair, and ring channels in said lid with which the stops of the jacks locatably engage.
  2. 2. A pattern wheel according to claim 1, wherein the lower of said pair of jacks has an intermediate riser and a terminal stop chamfered at its upper extremity-^ and wherein the upper of said pair of jacks has a slot engaging said intermediate riser and an upper stop chamfered at its upper extremity; said lower; jack being longer in radial direction than said upper jack.
  3. 3. A pattern wheel according to claim 2, wherein said slot in said upper jack is radially wider than said intermediate stop of said lowe jack so as to allow the upper jack to slide over the lower jack during independent and separate radial displacement.
  4. 4. A pattern wheel according to claim 2, wherein he outer one of said channels co-operates with the stop of said upper jack and the inner one of said channels with the stop of said lower jack, each of said channels having a ring with circular V-shaped.seats therein of a section corresponding to the chamfered extremities of the respective stops.
  5. 5. A pattern wheel according to claim. , wherein the lid is engaged by a threaded nut, said nut being threaded onto the hub of the disc such that when said nut is tightened the lid is pressed or clamped on to said jacks.
  6. 6. A pattern wheel according to claim 5, wherein the hub has mounted thereon means for limiting the reverse rotation of said threaded nut.
  7. 7. A pattern wheel substantially as hereinbefore described with .
