Description
A METHOD OP MAKING BUILDING PANELS FOB COLD S O E S The invention relates to the manu of insulated building With the use of sheet metal as wall material for the building of cold stores there arose the need for premanufactured elements order to shorten the erection Accordingly there exist a large number of designs for insulated mostly comprising an insulating material sandwiched between Fell known in ar are panels filled under pressure with polyurethane which are placed and connected to each to form walls the spaces left therebetween being subsequently filled with polyure hane foam pouring or Polyurethane a relatively expensive insulating other cheaper materials have been used but with less foamed for is less expensive and it has been tried to attach it to metal panels by this has mostly failed for the following that the glue melts owing to the high temperature of the outer facing which is exposed to sun radiation and that the bond between metal and insulation is thereby that polysterene panels experience considerable shrinkage with thereby loosening bond and causing cracks and fissures in the that two layers of slabs have to be with their joints staggered so as to prevent heat losses through these The object of the present invention to produce an insulating panel at a moderate obviating the aforementioned According to the invention the manufacture of a building panel comprising a corrugated metal sheet of great length and small width and an insulating layer of foamed polysterene or an equivalent material permanently attached to this is characterized by placing and glueing a number of substantially rectangular polysterene slabs of a width smaller than the metal in parallel alignment the latter with a gap remaining between each two and subsequentl filling this gap with foam polyurethane by a known such as pouring or In a preferred embodiment of the invention the corrugated sheet is of the type having trapezoidal corrugations into which polysterene strips of substantially the same section are inserted and glued into said prior to the placing of the main insulation This method allows for the subsequent shrinking of the polysterene slabs and assures adherence of the insulation to the metal owing to the high resilience of the polyurethane and its excellent adhesive qualities to the metal and the The assembly of the building panels to form walls or ceilings is done by connecting the overlapping edges by such means as bolts or rivets and filling the gap between the insulating material of each two adjoining panels with polyurethane as For the purpose of creating closure of the or sealing gaskets are inserted between the overlapping metal edges before rivetting or where this is not sufficient sealing putty may be applied to the The invention is by way of example wherein Figure 1 is a cross section through a building Figure 2 is a plan view of part of a building panel shown from the insulation the uppe part being shown during and the lower part after Figure 3 is a section through the panel shown in Figure 2 along Figure 4 on enlarged a connection between two adjoining Figure 5 shows means for connecting the panels to a supporting With reference to Figures 1 to 3 a building panel comprises a metal sheet 1 which possesses a number of trapezoidal corrugations This type of sheet is manufactured and commercially obtainable standard the length is determined the height of the wall or the width of the be since building these two parts with joints therebetween would weaken the In the drawings the panel is broken off at its lower end and looks relatively in it may be manufactured at any length required by the construction of the The trapezoidal corrugations except for both lateral corrugations are filled over their whole length with formed strips 3 of foam polysterene which are preferably fastened therein by glueing with a suitable A number of polysterene slabs 4 of a width smaller than the width of the metal sheet and considerably are glued onto said metal sheet and the inserted polysterene strips in such a way that they are equidistantly placed from the lateral edges and that a gap of few centimetres is left between each two adjacent There is also a not covered area at the top and the bottom of the The gaps between the slabs are subsequently filled with foam by pouring or spraying which filling 5 is shown in the lower part of the This material is sufficiently resilient to allow for considerable shrinking of the polysterene slabs without creating fissures and also its adhesion to the metal surface is strong enough to hold the slabs in position even in case that the glue has These after are connected to form walls and ceilings in the way known in the art for corrugated the lateral corrugations of adjoining panels are rivetted or bolted in overlapping For the purpose of creating and watertight junctions a sealing gasket 7 is preferably laid between the overlapping parts before in order to give extra protection the seams may be additionaly sealed with a suitable connecting the panels mechanically the space left open between the insulation panels is filled with polyurethane 12 b pouring or Figure 5 shows a joint between two overlapping panels wherein for the purpose of connedting the wall or ceiling to a supporting structure a long bolt 8 with two nuts 9 penetrates the metal The bolt head 10 is held in position by a perforated plate 11 which extends across the After attaching the bolt to the structure the space between the panels is filled up with polyurethane 12 as After completion of a wall or a ceiling by assembling the necessary numbdr of panels in the aforedescribed the inside may be protected by such material as metal or by plastering with humidity repelling It is understood that instead of polysterene other insulating materials may be such as for instance however the relatively low price of polysterene makes its use and other materials with similar characteristics may be used unless their high price makes their use Connections between walls and between walls and floors and other corner connections are executed in the manner in the here a ter completion of the mechanical connections the remaining space is with Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of our said invention and the manner in which the same is to be we declare that hat we claim insufficientOCRQuality
