Description
CONTAINER FOR LIQUIDS The present invention relates to a container for liquids and more particularly to a container for beverages and it is the object of the invention to provide an inexpensive and expendable container in which beverages can be supplied to the consumer and from which the consumer can drink the beverage without pouring it into a drinking vessel.
It has already been proposed to provide a packaged liquid container comprising a closed flexible bag, a liquid within the bag, and a drinking tube within the bag. One example of such an article is described in British Patent 789,368. In that patent, one end of a drinking straw is pointed so as to enable the drinking tube to pierce the bag by manipulating the tube from the outside. Such a construction, however, has not found widespread use because it is very difficult to manipulate the drinking straw, both at the time the bag is to be pierced, and also during the emptying of liquid contents from the bag by the user.
An object of the present invention is to provide an improved packaged liquid container of the foregoing type.
According to the present invention, there is provided a packaged liquid container comprising a closed flexible bag, a liquid within the bag, and a drinking tube within the bag, characterized in that one end of said drinking tube carries an enlarged bulbous formation facilitating manipulating the drinking tube externally of the flexible 1 Preferably, the opposite end of the drinking tube is ointed to enable it to ierce the b b t Fig. 1 is a container according to the invention as it comes into the hands of the consumer* while Fig.2 shows the same container being readied for drinking. Fig.3 is a perspective view of a drinking tube for use in connection with the container and Fig.U finally shows a funnel like member whic is used instead of the drinking tube for certain special purposes as will be explained later.
The. bag like container T which is made of polyethylene, or like material and which is' fused at two ends indicated; by 2 and 2· is manufactured in. the ordinary* customary way from tubular endless polyethylene hose* it is sealed at one end, say end 2, filled with the beverage in question, then the drinking tube 3 is placed therein and finally the end 2·· is ' sealed by fusing in the same way as the opposite end. , · The drinking tube is a rigid tube* also of plastics*; indicated by the numeral 31 its one end Is pointed and the other end is provided with a knob or bulb like thickening k.
Turning now to Fig.2, In order to have the container ready for drinking, slight pressure is exerted by the finger of a person holding the container unto the bulbous end k with the result that the pointed end pierces the wall of the container to extend therefrom. It will be seen that now the contents of the container can be sucked from it as is usual with conventional drinking straws o drinking tubes.
This arrangement is useful for light drinks kind for other liquids such as oil which are used in households and usually are sold in cans or bottles* In that case a member according to Fig*4 is to be employed* This is a funnel shaped tube which is inserted into the bag-like container as has been described above, but in view of the more viscous condition of the liquid in question the emptying tube should be conical, i.e. fuxml like.* I* is pressed out of the container in the same way as has been described with the drinking tube 3 and now the contents can easily be poured out, either the whole contents, or only part of it, according to needs* It can easily be seen that the new container constitutes*, a considerable economy in packing material and also in the cost of transport, being much lighter in weight and much easier to pack. Moreover- the question of returning empties, such as empty bottles does not arise* '
