Description
Apparatus for securing a battery of electric bicycles FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention refers to an apparatus for securing a battery of electric bicycles.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The batteries of electric bikes are very expensive and portable, so they are a tempting target for theft. Removing the e-bike battery is the best available option to prevent it from being stolen, but it is cumbersome, tedious and not always pleasant to arrive at work meetings with a heavy bag containing the battery. The conventional method of including a lock in the battery itself that inserts a small pin into the bike's tin rail is not a good solution, because with a screwdriver a person can disassemble the pin grip from the rail in a few seconds. The present invention presents an excellent solution to said problem.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 depicts the bicycle (200) when the battery is mounted on the rail.
FIG. 2 depicts the bicycle (200) and its main parts without the battery.
FIG. 3 depicts the apparatus (100).
FIG. 4 depicts the first securing plate (300).
FIG. 5 depicts the apparatus (100) when assembled on the battery.
THE INVENTION The main objective of the present invention is to provide an apparatus (100) for securing the battery (201) of electric bicycles (200). The battery of the bicycle is mounted on a rail (202) on the bicycle and the upper part (2010) of the battery is positioned between the seat tube (203), the right seat stay (204) and the left seat stay (205) of the bicycle. Figure 1 depicts the bicycle when the battery is mounted on the rail, and Figure 2 depicts the bicycle and its main parts.
The apparatus (100) comprises a first securing plate (300) and a second securing plate (400). The plates are similar or identical one to the other. The first securing plate (300) comprises a first flat member (301) that its lower edge (302) is curved outwards (303) and its upper edge (304) has a locking hole (305). The second securing plate (400) comprises a second flat member (401) that its lower edge (402) is curved outwards (403) and its upper edge (404) has a locking hole (405). Figure 3 depicts the apparatus (100), Figure 4 depicts the first securing plate (300), and Figure 5 depicts the apparatus (100) when assembled on the battery.
The first securing plate (300) may also include a first limiting piece (306) that vertically projects inward from one of the longitudinal sides (307) of the first securing plate, and a second limiting piece (406) that vertically projects inward from one of the longitudinal sides (407) of the second securing plate.
How to use the device: The user put the battery in its place on the rail, in such a way that the upper part of the battery is located between the seat tube (203), the right seat stay (204) and the left seat stay (205) of the bicycle, as depicted for example in Figure . The user then inserts the first securing plate in the gap (308) between the right seat stay and the battery. Inserting the first securing plate is done by tilting it outwards, inserting the curved part into said gap while changing the tilt angle until the first securing plate is adjacent to the left side (2030) of the battery. The same operation is also performed in relation to the second securing plate on the right side (2040) of the battery that is inserted through the gap (408) between the battery and the left seat stay.
After that, the user lock together the securing plates using a locking means (500) through the two locking holes of the securing plates, as seen for example in Figure 5.
The locking means may be a lock or a pin with a secondary lock, and similar means and ways in which two plates are locked to each other through holes in them.
The user should use a good and heavy lock that is difficult to break, such as the kind depicted in the drawings, and in any case to break the lock requires a rude, violent and noisy action that can attract the attention of passers-by. Also, the two securing plates cannot be pulled out because their curved parts (303) (403) will be blocked and will not pass through the gaps (308) (408) between the battery and the seat stays. Even an attempt to tilt the pair of securing plates to the sides will not succeed due to the limiting pieces (306) (406) that embrace the battery on both sides and disable tilting the securing plates in relation to the battery. These limiting pieces are specially designed for the case where the securing plates are pulled upwards until the curved parts get stuck and disable the plates to be pulled out: in this situation, if there is a difference in height between the top of the securing plates and the top of the battery, then this is a situation where a small tilt of the plates in relation to the battery may enable the battery to be pulled out. The limiting pieces prevent the possibility of this tilt, especially in the situation described above. It is preferable that the securing plated will be made by metal (and not a tin) to disable the possibility to bend them easily.
Abstract An apparatus for securing a battery of electric bicycles that is mounted on a rail on the bicycle while the upper part of the battery is positioned between a seat tube, a right seat stay and a left seat stay of the bicycle. The apparatus includes a first securing plate that includes a first flat member that its lower edge is curved outwards and its upper edge has a locking hole, and a second securing plate that includes a second flat member that its lower edge is curved outwards and its upper edge has a locking hole.
The securing plates may include limiting pieces that vertically projects inward from their longitudinal sides.
Claims (2)
