Description

" DECORATIVE MATERIAL w The present invention concerns decorative structure for use as wall panels., room, dividers, lamps, lampshades and the like.
It is an object of the invention to provide a decorative structure for the purpose aforesaid, which material combines plates of regular geometric shapes of glass, plastics, ceramics and the like in a decorative manner without damaging the plates themselves by the attachment of connecting means* The invention consists in a decorative structure for room dividers* wall panels, lamp shades and the like comprising a plurality of small plates of glass, fiberglass, plastics, ceramics and the like rigid material of regular geometric shape* each plate being loosely held in a frame work beyond which part of the periphery of the plate projects, the frame work projecting beyond other parts of the periphery of each plate at several positions* a connector link engaging said framework construction of adjacent plates at said positions where it projects beyond said parts of the periphery* The invention is illustrated, by way of example only, in the accompanying drawing, in whicht- Fig, 1 is a front view of one embodiment of the decorative structure according to the invention.
Figs* 2 and 3 are simila views of further embodiment thereof* Figs* 4 and 5 are plan views of two embodiments of the frame link according to the invention.
Figs* 6 and 7 show front views of further embodiments of the invention using the frame links of Figs. 4 and 5.
The decorative -aefceaplal according to the Invention is constituted as shown in Figs. 1 * 3 by small square plates l of rigid material such as glass, fiberglass, plastic, wood, ceramics or the like which are each held In a framework generally Indicated by 2. As shown In Fig. 1 this ¾^ejwpj¾^oomprises two square frames 3 of flat rigid material such as metal, plastic or the like which are placed against both flat sides of plate 1 In such a manner that the corners projeot beyond the edges of plate 1 and register with each other. These registering corners are interconnected by pins In such a manner tha aTspaoe is left between each pin and the juxtapose4 edge of the plate 1, and thereby the^plate l s loosely held in the framework 2. The pins 4 /adjacent frameworks 2 are engaged by a connector link 5. This link may have any desired geometric profile, eigi round, square, oblong, rectangular, and Is of suoh dimension that the pins 4 are movable relative to It; This permits a plate 1 to assume an angular position relative the adjacent plate,, or a row of plates so cpnneoted to assume an angular positio relative to a row of adjacent plates. Thus In the position in which the plates 1 are all in one plane,, the decorative material can be used as a room divider when mounted in a divider frame, or as a window or the like, while when the plates ar In angular positions to each other the decorative material oan be used¾ir for lamp, lamp shades or the like^ depending on the material used for the plates.
In the embodiment of Fig. 2 and 3 which also show square plates 1, framework 2 is constituted by frame i ks 6 6a s t h s of a ed onto each corner of plate 1 BO that the latter projects through each link 6 . The frame links 6 , shown in Pig. 4, are made of wire loops, for example, while the frame links 6a, shown in Fig. 5f are made of thin sections out from a tubular member, both links being of slightly greater width than the thickness of plate 1 in order to permit the latter to be loosely held by the links. The ends of ,tne frame links 6 , 6a project beyond the edges of plate 1 and are held together and to the ends of frame links 6 * 6a of adjacent pl es 1 by means of conneotor links 7* 7a, respectively. These latter are closed links and open links, respectively, In order to facilitate their assembly together with open frame links 6 and closed frame links 6a, . respectively. Links 6 , 6a and 7 » 7a may, o course, have any other suitable shape and profile than those described above. ■ ' , , structure In Figs, 6 and 7» the decorative ¾Η£¾¾τ¾¾1 according to the invention is constituted by circular plates la which are shown i Fig..6 to be held i three frame links 6a threaded onto plates la and forming a triangular framework* Adjacent frame links 6a in this case are held together by an open annular connector link 7a · . In this cas links 6 , 7 similar to those described with reference to Fig.;. 2 ma also be used.
In Fig,., 7» circular plates 7 are assembled to form structure the decorative ^WB&WPS&E according to the invention, by means of four frame links in a similar manner as described with reference to Figs., 2 or 3* '
