Claims (11)

  1. 291105/ Claims 1. A tremor suppression device comprising: a garment wearable on an anatomical region and including electrodes contacting the anatomical region when the garment is worn on the anatomical region and further including at least one inertial motion unit (IMU); and an electronic controller configured to: detect electromyography (EMG) signals as a function of anatomical location and time using the electrodes; determine an orientation of the anatomical region using the at least one IMU; identify tremors as a function of anatomical location and time based on the EMG signals; determine tremor suppressing neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) at one or more anatomical locations as a function of time by inputting the identified tremors and the orientation of the anatomical region to an artificial neural network (ANN); and apply the tremor suppressing NMES at one or more anatomical locations as a function of time using the electrodes to suppress the identified tremors.
  2. 2. The tremor suppression device of claim 1, wherein the electronic controller is configured to identify tremors by operations including spectral filtering the EMG signals to remove frequency components corresponding to voluntary motion.
  3. 3. The tremor suppression device of claim 1, wherein the electronic controller is configured to identify tremors further based on the orientation of the anatomical region determined using the IMU. 291105/
  4. 4. The tremor suppression device of claim 1, wherein the garment is a sleeve and the anatomical region is an arm, a leg, a wrist, an ankle, an arm and a wrist, or a leg and an ankle.
  5. 5. The tremor suppression device of claim 1, wherein the anatomical region is an arm, a leg, a wrist, an ankle, a hand, a foot, an arm and a wrist, a leg and an ankle, an arm and a wrist and a hand, a leg and an ankle and a foot, a wrist and a hand, or an ankle and a foot.
  6. 6. The tremor suppression device of claim 1, wherein the electrodes comprise electrogel.
  7. 7. The tremor suppression device of claim 1, wherein one of: (i) the electrodes consist of a single set of electrodes that is used to both detect the EMG signals and apply the NMES; or (ii) the electrodes comprise a first set of electrodes that is used to detect the EMG signals and a second set of electrodes that is used to apply the NMES.
  8. 8. A device providing feedback-controlled neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) for tremor suppression, the device comprising: electrodes; and an electronic controller that in conjunction with the electrodes performs a feedback loop comprising: receiving electromyography (EMG) signals from an anatomical region via the electrodes as a function of anatomical location and time; identifying tremors as a function of anatomical location and time based on the received EMG signals; determining tremor suppressing NMES as a function of anatomical location and time by inputting the identified tremors as a function of anatomical location and time to a machine learning (ML) component; 291105/ applying, via the electrodes, the tremor suppressing NMES as a function of anatomical location and time; determining updated tremor suppressing NMES that is updated for expected tremor migration by inputting both the identified tremors as a function of anatomical location and time and the applied tremor suppressing NMES to the ML component; and applying, via the electrodes, the updated tremor suppressing NMES that is updated for the expected tremor migration.
  9. 9. The device of claim 8, wherein the identifying of the tremors includes spectral filtering the received EMG signals to remove frequency components corresponding to voluntary motion.
  10. 10. The device of claim 8, further comprising at least one inertial motion unit (IMU), wherein the identifying of the tremors is further based on an orientation of the anatomical region determined using the at least one IMU.
