Description
NON-INDEXABLE PIPE COUPLERS FOR USE IN WASTEWATER DRAINAGE STACK Field of the InventionThe invention relates to non-indexable pipe couplers for use in wastewater drainage stacks.
Background of the Invention Israel Patent No. 252598 discloses a non-indexable end-to-end butt pipe coupler for use in wastewater drainage stacks of polypropylene (PP) pipes.
The pipe coupler includes an overlap arrangement from an ingress pipe to an egress pipe to preclude wastewater leakage during gravitational wastewater drainage flow. The pipe coupler has an external housing surface with a wastewater drainage flow indicator for visually indicating an intended flow direction of gravitational wastewater drainage therethrough from an ingress pipe to an egress pipe for facilitating correct installation of same.
Summary of the InventionThe present invention is directed toward novel non-indexable pipe couplers for use in wastewater drainage stacks of polypropylene (PP) pipes.
Brief Description of Drawings In order to understand the invention and to see how it can be carried out in practice, preferred embodiments will now be described, by way of non- limiting examples only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which similar parts are likewise numbered, and in which: Fig. 1 is a front perspective view of a commercially available non- indexable end-to-end butt pipe coupler; Fig. 2A is a longitudinal cross section of an assemblage of the Figure pipe coupler, an ingress pipe and an egress pipe along line A-A in Figure 1; Fig. 2B is a close up view of the encircled section A in Figure 2A; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a non-indexable pipe coupler in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 4 is a longitudinal cross section of the Figure 3 pipe coupler along line B-B in Figure 3; Fig. 5 is a longitudinal cross section of a knee pipe coupler; Fig. 6 is a longitudinal cross section of a reduction pipe coupler; Fig. 7 is a longitudinal cross section of a pipe coupler with a bifurcated upper housing section; Fig. 8 is a longitudinal cross section of a pipe coupler with a trifurcated upper housing section; Fig. 9 is a longitudinal cross section of a 4 way pipe coupler; Fig. 10 is a longitudinal cross section of an alternative 4 way pipe coupler; and Fig. 11 is a front elevation view of another alternative 4 way pipe coupler.
Claims (1)
1. A non-indexable pipe coupler for use in a wastewater drainage stack, the pipe coupler coupling at least one ingress pipe to an egress pipe for gravitational wastewater drainage therethrough, each ingress pipe having an ingress pipe end, and the egress pipe having an egress pipe end, the pipe coupler comprising a housing having a tubular lower housing section and an upper housing section in flow communication with said lower housing section on installation of the pipe coupler in a wastewater drainage stack whereupon said upper housing section is above said lower housing section, said lower housing section having a longitudinal lower housing section centerline, an internal lower housing section surface and an external lower housing section surface, said lower housing section having an uppermost inlet port and a female egress pipe port for sealingly receiving the egress pipe end, said female egress pipe port having an external diameter D1, said uppermost inlet port having an annular inwardly directed flange with a tubular sleeve concentric with the longitudinal lower housing section centerline extending toward said female egress pipe port to bound a tubular cavity therewith for sealingly receiving the egress pipe end therein, said external lower housing section surface having a wastewater drainage flow indicator for visually indicating an intended flow direction of gravitational wastewater drainage through the non-indexable pipe coupler from the at least one ingress pipe to the egress pipe for facilitating correct installation of the non-indexable pipe coupler, said upper housing section having a lowermost outlet port for sealingly mounting on said uppermost inlet port and at least one female ingress pipe port for sealingly receiving a corresponding number of ingress pipe ends, the pipe coupler being configured as one of the following: 30 a knee pipe coupler wherein said upper housing section subtends an included angle a with said lower housing section where 15° = a = 90°, a reduction pipe coupler wherein said upper housing section includes a narrow diameter female ingress port having an external diameter D2 where D1> D2, a pipe coupler with a bifurcated upper housing section; a pipe coupler with a trifurcated upper housing section; and a 4 way pipe coupler wherein said upper housing section includes a central upper female ingress pipe port opposite said lowermost outlet port and a pair of lateral female ingress pipe connected to said lowermost outlet port. 10
